Amgen Scholars Program
Undergraduate summer research program in science and biotechnology, primarily for students majoring in science and engineering fields, although all majors are eligible to apply. The U.S. program is open to U.S. citizens and permanent residents who are undergraduates enrolled at a four-year institution and are classified as sophomores and juniors. Seniors who will be returning to school in the fall semester following the program are also eligible. Applicants must have at least a 3.2 GPA and an interest in pursuing a Ph.D. or M.D.-Ph.D.
There are 10 host universities in the U.S., each with a separate application, and students may apply to any or all of these. The deadline for application is February 2, except for California Institute of Technology whose deadline is February 16.
The host universities are California Institute of Technology, Columbia University, Howard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University, University of California-Berkley, University of California-Los Angeles, University of California-San Diego, University of California-San Francisco, and University of Washington.

Clinton Scholars in Dubai Program
Scholarship program for one semester at the American University in Dubai, awarded each semester to up to 10 U.S. students. It covers full tuition and on-campus housing for one semester at the AUD.
Applications are due in February, March, and October for the summer, fall, and spring semesters.

Henry Clay Center Student Congress
A week-long course held in July at the University of Kentucky Patterson School of Diplomacy and International Commerce, in partnership with Transylvania University and Ashland, The Henry Clay Estate. This course is designed for college juniors who are interested in statesmanship and will cover topics such as diplomacy, negotiation, and rhetoric.

Tennessee's 2008 representative at the HCCS Student Congress was Georgia Varlan, a senior majoring in College Scholars.
MHIRT: Minority Health and Health Disparities International Training Program
A national program designed to encourage students to pursue careers in biomedical and behavioral research that provides funding to do health-related research in developing countries. These grants support innovative programs that offer international research training opportunities to qualified undergraduate, graduate, and health professions students who are from populations underrepresented in basic science, biomedical, clinical, or behavioral health research career fields.

Pasteur Foundation: Zuccaire Internships
A 10-week summer internship program at the Institut Pasteur for accomplished undergraduates strongly interested in the biological sciences. This program gives hands-on laboratory experience to undergraduates contemplating a graduate degree.
Applications for Summer 2009 are due December 19, 2008. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and have completed at least 4 semesters by the summer of the program but not yet obtained an undergraduate degree. Prior lab experience is recommended, and a knowledge of French or desire to learn it is advisable.
