Nomination Process

Become a UT Nominee. For scholarships including the Truman, British Marshall, Mitchell, Rhodes, Goldwater and Udall. First, work with the ONSF to begin the application and nomination processes for your scholarship. Then, compose, revise and submit your application materials to the ONSF. The UT faculty campus selection committee will review your application. Join interviews with faculty for potential endorsement by the university. Finally, selection for endorsement and review by national scholarship committees.

Applications are carefully reviewed by a UT faculty campus selection committee; candidates are then interviewed by the faculty and potentially selected for endorsement by the University. At that point, student applicants are forwarded to the national review committees for further consideration. In fact, the named opportunities above, do not allow students to apply directly to the Foundations save through their current or home institutions and expect UT’s faculty review/interview committees to make the final determination as to whether or not a student applicant sufficiently meets the requirements of the scholarship opportunity.

Remember that formal endorsement and evaluation processes (meaning the review and interview experience you will engage with while at UT) are meant to help you become an even stronger candidate for the opportunities you are pursuing. Our standing review committees are carefully crafted to provide both challenging feedback and targeted encouragement to candidates regardless of the outcome of the campus process. More often than not, the faculty on your review committees while have a particular connection to an award process (a former recipient themselves) and/or a connection to the country in which you are proposing to go, as is the case with those who review Fulbright applications.

UT alumni are encouraged to seek out the support of the ONSF, if interested in pursuing any nationally competitive scholarship, regardless of the time that has passed since graduation. All campus processes, for current students and alumni, are designed to help applicants craft the strongest applications possible. UT’s support of your efforts does not end simply because you graduate.
