  • We ask this only because citizenship is tied to eligibility for many nationally competitive scholarships and fellowships.
  • Please list national scholarship(s) you will apply for. For example, Fulbright US Student Program, Marshall, Rhodes, Gates Cambridge, Mitchell, Truman, etc. In order to qualify for an ONSF Exploration Grant, you must apply for a nationally competitive scholarship.

    Under "Academic Resources" in MyUTK click on "View Academic History". Click submit. Print file as PDF. Save and upload.

  • Reference Letter

    You will need to have one (1) academic reference letter submitted on your behalf for the ONSF Exploration Grant. This letter should be no more than 2 single-spaced pages and should reflect the recommender’s understanding of your academic background, as well as of your preparation and suitability for the specific program/project/application for which this Exploration Grant will ultimately support you (e.g., Fulbright study/research project, graduate program in the UK for the Marshall). Please provide the name and title of your reference letter-writer, who will need to e-mail the reference letter to onsf@utk.edu by the Exploration Grant application deadline.
  • This is the person who will e-mail your reference letter to onsf@utk.edu by the Exploration Grant application deadline.
  • Additional Potential References

    You must also provide the names and titles of two (2) additional potential references for the program/project/application (e.g., Fulbright, Marshall, Rhodes) for which you will eventually apply. For the purposes of this application, we do not need anything beyond a name and title for your two "additional potential references."
  • Research Plans and Qualifications

    Please indicate the destination country for your study/research and/or graduate school plans, the field of study (e.g., “International Relations”), and a brief description of this study/research (e.g., “Examining Chinese foreign policy in Africa”).

    Note: You will detail your exploratory plans and itemized request for the Exploration Grant itself later in the application.
