It is becoming increasingly important that undergraduates indicate engagement on multiple levels. Competitive internships suggest a significant commitment to one’s chosen discipline and/or future career. Be selective and mindful when seeking out opportunities such as internships in support of your ambitions. Committees also recognize the realities of having to work to support oneself through college, and even if your paid job doesn’t relate directly to your studies, it will give some indication as to your ability to manage your time well and remain focused on your studies while attending to your financial responsibilities.
